Can thermal cameras see through walls like in movies?

2023-04-14 2005 1

No, thermal cameras cannot see through walls like in movies. This is a common misconception that has been perpetuated by Hollywood and other forms of media. Thermal cameras work by detecting infrared radiation, which is a type of heat energy. All objects emit infrared radiation, and the amount of infrared radiation that an object emits is determined by its temperature. A thermal camera can detect the infrared radiation emitted by an object and create an image of the object's heat signature.

However, this technology has limitations when it comes to seeing through walls. Walls are designed to block the transfer of heat, which means that only a small amount of heat will pass through them. This makes it difficult for thermal cameras to detect heat signatures on the other side of a wall. If you point a thermal camera at a wall, you will only see the heat signature of the wall itself. You will not be able to see anything that is on the other side of the wall.

Furthermore, the materials used to construct walls can also affect the accuracy of thermal imaging. For example, concrete and brick walls are more effective at blocking heat than drywall or wood paneling. This means that even if some heat does pass through a wall, it may not be enough for a thermal camera to detect.

There are some exceptions to this rule. If there is a large temperature difference between the air on one side of the wall and the air on the other side of the wall, the thermal camera may be able to detect the temperature difference. This is because the temperature difference will cause the air on each side of the wall to emit different amounts of infrared radiation. However, this is a very rare occurrence, and it is not something that you can count on.

There are some technologies that claim to be able to see through walls using thermal imaging, such as radar-based systems or devices that use terahertz waves. However, these technologies are still in development and are not widely available.

In general, thermal cameras cannot see through walls. If you are looking for a way to see through walls, you will need to use a different type of technology, such as X-ray vision. However, X-ray vision is not available to the public, and it is only used for medical and industrial purposes. Though it cannot see through walls, thermal imaging has widely uses in many areas like agriculture, law enforcement, fire rescue, Animal Conservation, military, electrical maintenance and more. And the thermal camera phones come with portability, Ease of Use and affordable prices, to make these types of smartphones are used by more and more people around the world.

As the world's famous rugged phones brands, Blackview and CAT both offering such type of smartphones. They are such as Blackview BL8800 Pro, Blackview BV9800 Pro, Blackview BV6600 Pro, and Cat S61. However, the Blackview phones come with more affordable prices and newer software and hardware.
