Welcome to Blackview (The leader of rugged Android phone) blog. Hope this 'Enable Back Button' guide has been helpful.

Many Android phones these days come with gesture navigation, which can be a sleek way to navigate the system. However, some users prefer the classic on-screen buttons, including the back button. This guide will show you how to enable the back button on various Android devices, with a specific example for Redmi phones.

Back Button

Understanding Navigation Options:

There are two main navigation options on Android:

  • Gesture navigation: This relies on swiping gestures on the screen to navigate back, go home, and open recent apps.
  • Button navigation: This uses on-screen buttons for back, home, and recent apps.

Enabling the Back Button (Button Navigation):

  • Open Settings: Swipe down from the top of your screen once or twice (depending on your phone) to access the quick settings panel. Locate the settings cog icon and tap it.
  • Find System Navigation: Here, things might differ slightly depending on your Android version and phone brand.
  • For Redmi and most Android phones: Look for options like "System," "Display," or "Gestures." Navigate through these options until you find "System navigation" or a similar term.
  • If you can't find it: Utilize the search function within Settings. Type in "navigation" or "gestures" to find the relevant setting.
  • Choose Button Navigation: Once you're in the System Navigation menu, you'll see options for navigation styles. Select "Three button navigation" or "Button navigation" (depending on the wording). This will replace gesture navigation with the classic back button, home button, and recent apps button.

Specific Example: Redmi Phones

For Redmi phones running MIUI (Xiaomi's user interface), the steps might be slightly different:

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to Display & wallpaper.
  • Tap on Navigation bar.
  • Choose Button navigation or 3-button navigation.

Additional Tips:

  • If you can't find the navigation settings, consult your phone's user manual or search online for your specific model.
  • Some third-party launcher apps might also offer options to customize the navigation bar.
  • Enabling the back button will disable gesture navigation and vice versa.
  • You can always switch between navigation options based on your preference.

By following these steps, you can easily switch back to the classic back button on your Android phone. Now, navigating your phone should feel more familiar and comfortable.
